Rowing Wraps Up ACC Championship In Sixth Place
May 16, 2026 | Women's Rowing
RALEIGH, N.C. – Wrapping up action on the water at the ACC Rowing Championship, No. 23 North Carolina earned two first-place finishes in petite finals en route to a sixth-place finish at Lake Wheeler.
"We're really proud of the way that the weekend end up. This is a wicked fast conference probably the fastest one in the country. To finish in the top half is pretty exceptional," said head coach Erin Neppel. "We feel like every single crew today played a really huge part in getting us the points that we needed to. We were pumped for the fours and the 3V who had really incredible races in their grand finals by hanging on to crews that are top 10 in country. It was a great experience for those guys to race those crews and then for the V8 in the 2V8 to go and make statements by winning their petite finals. We're just really proud of these guys and the way that they wrapped up the season and we're excited to leap off of this next year and keep pushing."
In a tight 3V8 grand final, UNC posted a time of 6:40.5 to finish fourth among top-10 squads against Virginia, California, and Stanford.
The 2V4 crew earned a time of 7:29.8, finishing fifth in the grand final to add a few more points on the board for Carolina.
Notching a time of 7:28.0 in the V4 grand final, the Tar Heels edged out Notre Dame to finish fifth in the race.
Speeding away to a time of 6:39.7, the 2V8 earned a first-place finish in the petite final to generate plenty of noise from Tar Heel fans on the shore.
Tacking more points on the board, the V8 earned another first-place finish in a petite final, with the Tar Heels leading the pack with a time of 6:27.7.
For the second straight season, Carmen Sagues earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team, while Maya Schultz earned her first ACC honor of her career with an All-ACC Third Team honor.
The Tar Heels wrap action from Lake Wheeler with a total of 75 points, to finish sixth overall among ACC squads in the 2026 Championship.
