WFU Baseball Sweeps North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The 18th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons gained a sweep of their three-game series with the fifth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels by sweeping two games from the Tar Heels on Sunday. Wake won the first game 9-8 and the second 4-3.
In the first game, which was picked up in the second inning after rain forced the game to be called on Saturday, third-baseman Corey Slavik hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Deacs to the victory.
Wake led 6-0 after scoring three runs in the first inning and three again in the third. In the third, Slavik hit the first of his two homers and Carlos rackley followed with a solo shot of his own. UNC cut the lead to 6-4 with four runs in the top of the fourth, but Wake answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs to make the score 8-4. Wake added an insurance run in the eighth and North Carolina scored a run in the eighth and one in the ninth to make the final 9-8.
Ryan Braun (2-0) came in in relief and pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on two hits, to pick up the win for Wake. David Bush picked up his third save of the season, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings. For North Carolina, Chris Elmore (3-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three runs on three hits to take the loss for the Tar Heels.
In the second game of the day and final game of the series, Wake jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the second and two more in the third. North Carolina came back with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, but Wake held on for the 4-3 win.
In the second game, Danny Borrell (3-1) pitched six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out four batters to pick up the win for Wake Forest. Bush pitched the final three innings, giving up no runs on three hits to collect his fourth save of the season and second of the day. Eric Henderson (5-4) took the loss for North Carolina, pitching 6 1/3 innings surrendering four runs on seven hits.
With the win, Wake Forest improves to 29-9-1 overall and 11-4 in the ACC, while UNC drops to 28-9 overall and 4-8 in league play.
