UNC Track And Field Has Five NCAA Provisional Qualifiers At Carolina Classic

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The North Carolina track and field team had five athletes earn NCAA provisional marks Saturday at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. Ian Douglas led the way for the Tar Heels by winning the men's shot put with a provisional mark of 60-4 3/4. The mark was also the second best in UNC history. Also for the men, Jeff Ellis took a provisional mark in the 400m hurdles in a time of 50.66 and Brent Callaway won the pole vault with a height of 17-1 1/2.
For the women, Lutisha Shittu earned a provisional time in the 100m hurdles by winning the event in a time of 13.40. Joy Ganes won the high jump with a provisional height of 5-10 1/2 and Ola Sesay finished second in the long jump for her provisional mark of 20-9. Sesay only finished behind former Tar Heel Nicole Gamble, who won with a distance of 20-11 1/4.
The Tar Heel track and field team will now travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Tech Reebok Invitational on May 20th.
