Former University of North Carolina pitcher Chris Elmore opened his professional career on Friday evening as a Lowell Spinner. Elmore was drafted in the 17th round of the amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox, and has been assigned to the Lowell (Mass) Spinners of the New York Penn League.
In the Spinners' fourth game of the season, Elmore made his first appearance in a minor league ballgame, and he did not disappoint the sellout crowd of 5,000 who were on hand as the Spinners took on the Pittsfield Mets. The lefthander from Virginia Beach, VA pitched a pre-determined 4 innings in the start allowing no earned runs and only 3 hits. Elmore also struck out 3 and did not allow a walk in the contest. The Spinners went on to win the game 3-1 and moved to 2-2 on the season.
Elmore closed out a brilliant Carolina career in which he had the third best UNC winning percentage of all time. He gradutated from Carolina as a Dean's List student with a degree in business adminstration and information systems.
