CHAPEL HILL -- North Carolina freshman centerfielder Adam Greenberg was named to the 2000 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team today.
The Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and a second-team All-ACC pick, Greenberg led the Tar Heels in batting average (.386), hits (98), runs (69), triples (7), stolen bases (28) and slugging percentage (.594). He also led Carolina, which finished the 2000 season 46-17, with 34 multi-hit games and had a team-high 21-game hitting streak earlier in the year. His seven triples tied for the second most ever in a single-season at Carolina, as did his 98 hits.
Greenberg will begin tryouts in Tucson, Ariz., on June 14 for the U.S. National Team.
