Tar Heels Fare Well at ITA Summer Collegiate Circuit

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina tennis players Kristin Koenig and David Cheatwood have played well this week at the ITA Summer Collegiate Circuit event held July 24-27 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at the University of North Carolina.
Koenig, a rising senior, won the doubles championship of the women's draw, combining with Wake Forest's Janet Bergman to defeat Christie Schweer of Virginia and Williams, 8-5 in the final. Bergman and Koenig were the top doubles seed. In singles, Koenig, seeded fourth, defeated Megan Dunigan of Furman and Gene Holman of Furman before falling to the top-seeded Bergman, 6-1, 6-1 in Thursday's semifinals.
On the men's side, UNC senior David Cheatwood (Fayetteville, N.C.) defeated Tom Givan of Alabama, Jack Hu of Memphis, John Michael of DePaul and Michael Hendrickson of James Madison all in straight set matches to face Nick Benjamin of Princeton in Thursday's semifinals. Both Cheatwood and Benjamin have advanced to the semifinals as unseeded players.
