Carolina Men's Soccer Opens 2000 Exhibition Season Saturday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's soccer team will play its first and only exhibition game of the 2000 season on Saturday afternoon. The Tar Heels, tied for No. 24 in the preseason NSCAA national poll, will host Virginia Tech at 2:00 p.m.at the WRAL Soccer Complex in Raleigh.
The Tar Heels return eight starters from the 1999 squad that went 12-7-1 and earned its first NCAA Tournament bid in five seasons. Juniors Chris Carrieri, a third-team All-America and first-team All-ACC choice a year ago, and Danny Jackson, a second-team All-ACC choice in '99, will lead the Carolina offense and defense, respectively.
The WRAL Soccer Complex is located on Perry Creek Rd. in Northeast Raleigh. Take the I-440 beltway in Raleigh to the Capital Blvd. exit (Route 1) and go north. After 2.5 miles, merge right onto Rt. 401 North. Go another 2.5 miles and Perry Creek Rd. will be on your left. Follow Perry Creek for 3/4 of a mile and the WRAL Soccer Complex is on your right.
Carolina will open its 2000 regular season next weekend in Birmingham, Ala. At the UAB Nike Classic. On Fri., Sept. 1, the Tar Heels will face Illinois-Chicago at 7:00 p.m. ET. On Sun., Sept. 3, UNC will face host Alabama-Birmingham at 3:30 p.m. ET. Carolina's first home game will be on Wed., Sept. 6 at 7:00 p.m. versus Campbell at Fetzer Field.
