Greensboro, N.C. --
North Carolina forward Chris Carrieri and Duke midfielder Robert Russell share this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors after leading their respective teams to a perfect record in last week's play, the conference announced on Monday evening.
Carrieri, a junior from Stafford, Virginia, recorded the game-winning goal at the 85:03 mark to defeat the No. 4 ranked Clemson Tigers in the first conference game of the 2000 ACC season. The win was Carolina's first regular-season win at Clemson since 1968 and UNC's third win in a row over the Tigers.
Carrieri leads the Tar Heels this season with 23 shots on goal, four goals, eight points and two game-winning goals.
Russell, a senior from Amherst, Mass., recorded two goals and four assists for a total of eight points in victories over Long Island and Butler in the Duke-adidas Soccer Classic. He was also named MVP of the tournament for his efforts.
Carolina returns to action Tuesday night at Fetzer Field versus Davidson at 7:00 p.m.
