CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --Coming off a season in which the Tar Heels returned to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in nine seasons, North Carolina men's tennis coach Sam Paul announced the team's 2000-01 schedule and once again, it is a challenging slate of events. Paul led the Tar Heels to a Top 25 national finish and ACC runnerup placing in the year 2000 and he returns four singles starters from that outstanding 18-6 team.
Carolina will open play this weekend when individuals compete in the Rice Invitational at Houston, Texas. That is the first of six fall tournaments in which the Tar Heels will compete. Carolina will play host to the Rolex South Atlantic Championships November 1-6 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The spring season will start January 26 with the ACC Indoors at Winston-Salem, N.C. Carolina will open its dual-match season at home on February 1 against Davidson. That is the first of 19 dual matches to be played in the spring. The 2001 ACC Championship will be played at Orlando, Fla. on April 19-22.
