Men's Tennis Has Successful First Day in the Omni Hotels ITA Region II Championships

The Carolina Men's Tennis team faired well in the Qualifying Rounds of the Omni Hotels ITA Region II Championships presented by Top of the Hill, Wednesday.
Sophomore Andy Metzler defeated Andres Cotuna (Liberty), 6-3, 7-5 while freshman Daniel Pinchbeck fell to Paul Goode (UNC Greensboro), 6-4, 6-7, 6-0. Metzler advanced to the second round of the Qualifying Tournament. He will face Scott Shnugg (Georgia Tech) on Thursday.
In doubles action, Metzler and senior Marcio Petrone defeated Branks/Mulhane (UNC Asheville), 8-3. Also, junior Trystan Meniane teamed with Pinchbeck to defeat Hadden/McWhorter (UNC Greensboro), 8-2. Also in the first round, sophomore Ben Aiken and junior Max Hilkey defeated Furfuro/Villarroel (Charleston Southern), 8-3.
Each Tar Heel doubles team played in second round action on Wednesday as well. Meniane/Pinchbeck defeated Cotuna/Rino, 8-3, Metzler/Petrone defeated Burwell/Porter, 8-3, and Aiken/ Hilkey defeated Hamori/Procacci, 9-7.
Sophomore Nicholas Monroe and freshman Geoff Boyd will compete in their first doubles match on Thursday against Koning/Thompson (Clemson).
