UNC Volleyball Sweeps Georgia Tech, 3-0

The UNC volleyball team defeated Georgia Tech, 3-0 (30-27, 30-26, 30-22), Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill to remain on top of the ACC standings. The Tar Heels improve to 14-3, 7-0 in the ACC with the win, while the Yellow Jackets are now 8-4 overall, 4-2 in conference action.
Laura Greene led the Tar Heels in kills (12) and digs (15), while Nicole Reis added 10 kills. Eve Rackham totaled 25 assists for the match to lead the Tar Heels with Malaika Underwood adding 13 assists to go along with 14 digs.
Three Yellow Jackets had double-digit kills, Amanda Hess (11), Maja Pachale (11) and Alexandria Preiss (10). Kele Eveland led the team in assists with 47, and Lynette Moster led the squad in digs with 10.
UNC took game one, 30-27, despite being outhit .261 to .182. Carolina looked to be in command of the game with a 26-21 lead, but the Jackets battled back to knot the score at 27-27 before a Holly Strauss kill and two block assists by Strauss gave the Heels the game, 30-27.
The Tar Heels jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second game, and held off a late Georgia Tech rally, led by Preiss' six kills, to win, 30-26.
The third game saw Georgia Tech hot early as they built a 6-1 lead before Carolina could tie the game at 11-11 on an Underwood kill. The Tar Heels then outscored the Jackets 19-11 to close out the game, 30-22.
The Tar Heels are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Raleigh to face NC State at 7 p.m.
