Greensboro, N.C. -- North Carolina men's soccer team, the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion, will be the No. 2 seed in next weekend's ACC Tournament, the conference announced on Monday morning.
The Tar Heels will face No. 7 seed NC State on Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C. Should Carolina defeat the Wolfpack, it will face the winner of the game between No. 3 seed Clemson and No. 6 seed Maryland on Friday night at 8:00 p.m.
The other quarterfinal game scheduled for Thursday is No. 4 seed Wake Forest against No. 5 seed Duke. Top-seeded Virginia, which was a perfect 6-0 in ACC play this season, has a bye into Friday's semifinal round and will face the winner of the Duke-Wake game on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Carolina earned the second seed in the Tournament by virtue of its 4-2 ACC record this season. Clemson was also 4-2, but the Tar Heels defeated the Tigers, 1-0, on Nov. 3 in Chapel Hill.
Clemson defeated Wake Forest on Saturday evening in Clemson, dropping the Demon Deacons to the fourth seed with a conference record of 3-2-1.
In 2000, the Tar Heels were the top seed and won the ACC Tournament championship with 1-0 wins over Wake Forest and Virginia.
