Carolina Track & Field Performs Well At Day Two Of The Pepsi Invitational

lacksburg, Va.-- Sal Gigante won the weight throw at the Virginia Tech Invitational with a toss of 63'-3.50" eclipsing his previous personal best of 61'11.75" set in 1998. Gigante's throw is a NCAA provisional qualifying mark and ranks second in Carolina's record books.
Ola Sesay remains undefeated in the long jump this season winning with a leap of 20'09.75". UNC also placed third and fourth in the long jump with Anissa Gainey (20'03.75") and Lashawn Gee (20'00.50")respectively. Sesay also finished third in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.51. Joy Ganes won the high jump for the second consecutive week with a height of 5'10.00".
Other standout performances included Stefani Dixon's fifth place finish in the pole vault, setting a new personal best and Carolina record with a mark of 11'09.75". Edi Ntuen was the top collegiate finisher in the 400 meters, placing third in a season best time of 55.23. Crystal Cox placed fourth in the 200 meters crossing the line in 24.56, the fastest time by a TarHeel this season.
UNC returns to Blacksburg, Virginia next weekend for the ACC Championships scheduled to begin onFriday (February 16) at 11 am.
