Baseball Loses To South Alabama, 13-1.

Shane Scoville, Ryan Mulhern and Tony Piccotti has two hits each and Tony Neal and Bert Heath combined on a six-hitter as South Alabama routed North Carolina, 13-1, in a game that ended due to the 10-run mercy rule after seven innings.
USA remains unbeaten on the year at 7-0, its best start since 1975. UNC lost for the first time this season to fall to 4-1.
Neal improved to 2-0 on the season with a four-hit, nine-strikeout effort. In five innings, the junior right-hander allowed just one earned run with three walks. Heath fanned three and gave up two hits over the final two innings.
Following a 27-minute rain delay in the third inning, the Jags exploded for all of their 13 runs in the third and fourth innings. Josh Touchstone, a red-shirt freshman third baseman out of Semmes, started the rally with a one-out double to right. Cameron Likely chased Touchstone home with s single to center that evened the game at 1-1.
Scott Calahan and Cameron Likely scored on a wild pitch and passed ball, respectively, that put the Jags ahead 3-1. Mulhern doubled in Tim Merritt who reached on a single to left. Piccotti, who leads the Jags in RBI with 12, added two with a double down the left field line to extend the Jaguar lead to 6-1. Scoville, seeing playing time for the first time as starting catcher, capped the frame with a run-scoring double to right.
USA erupted for six more in the fourth to chase Tar Heel starter Scott Autrey (1-1). Mulhern, Piccotti and Scoville combined to drive in six of the Jags' 13 runs.
Sean Farrell knocked in Carolina's lone run with an RBI double in the first inning after Adam Greenberg had led off the game with a single. Carolina returns to the diamond on Saturday to face Auburn at 3:30 p.m. The Tar Heels face Minnesota on Sunday.
