Baseball Takes 10-6 Win Over Le Moyne

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina defeated Le Moyne College 10-6 at Boshamer Stadium on Saturday afternoon
The Tar Heels exploded with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, breaking a 6-6 tie and making Jason Howell the team's first four-game winner.
Carolina jumped out to an early one-run lead in the first inning when Sean Farrell hit a sacrifice fly deep to left center field to score Adam Greenberg (3-5, RBI) who had led off the inning with a single and stolen base.
The Tar Heels extended their lead in the bottom of the second. Jeremy Cleveland started the inning with a single and Jason Howell reached on an error. Chris Maples (3-4, 4 RBI) then hit his third home run of the season to give Carolina a 4-0 lead.
Le Moyne scored one run in the top of the third, fourth and fifth innings cutting Carolina's lead to 4-3. Carolina answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Chad Prosser (2-4, RBI) led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Greenberg who would later come around to score on Farrell's second sacrifice fly of the afternoon.
The Dolphins responded with two runs of their own in the top of the sixth. Sam Parkins (2-3, RBI) walked to lead off the inning then eventually came around to score on Kyle Brown's (1-3, 2 RBI) RBI single. After a walk to Anthony Aquilino (1-3, RBI), Brown stole third and Aquilino stole second. A fielder's choice by Mike Volkmar scored Brown, once again reducing Carolina's lead to one run at 6-5.
Le Moyne then pulled even in the top of the eighth as Aquilino homered to left off of Howell who came in to pitch at the beginning of the inning.
ut Howell redeemed himself in the bottom of the inning, knocking in Farrell as the go ahead run on his first hit of the day. The Tar Heels would score three more times as Maples and Prosser both hit RBI singles and Ralph Roberts (2-4) scored from third on a wild pitch.
Whitley Benson came in and pitched a scoreless ninth inning, giving the Tar Heels their 14th win of the season.
Carolina will wrap up the series with Le Moyne Sunday afternoon at 1:30 with Scott Manshack scheduled to make the start. The Tar Heels then return to action Tuesday as they travel to Coastal Carolina before returning home next weekend to open up the ACC regular season against Wake Forest.
