BALTIMORE, MD. -- Ninth-ranked Boston University ran off the first six goals of the game and never looked back on Sunday afternoon as it upset fourth-ranked North Carolina 14-7 in women's lacrosse action at Loyola College's Curley Field.
Kyle Rutkowski and Kristin Abruzzese each scored four goals to lead the Terriers to the victory. Rutkowksi had three goals and Chrissy Lombard two goals as BU scored six times in the first 13:49 of the game to blow things open. BU led 8-2 at the half and then went on to outscore the Tar Heels 6-5 in the second half.
Katie Nordhoff added three goals for BU which defeated Carolina for the second successive season in Baltimore.
UNC fell to 3-2 with the loss and will have six days off before playing #5 Duke in Durham next Saturday at 12 noon. Christine McPike was the only multiple goal scorer for Carolina as she scored three times.
oston University evened its record at 1-1 on the season. The Terriers play at Temple on Friday at 3 p.m.
