Chapel Hill, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's soccer team will host the under-17 United States national team in an exhibition game on Friday afternoon at Fetzer Field. The game will begin at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
Please note the 1 p.m. gametime, as some media outlets mistakenly have reported the game will begin at 2 p.m. The U-17 national team also will play at Duke on Wednesday night, March 28 in Durham, N.C.
The U-17 team is preparing in the Triangle for its World Cup Qualifying Tournament in April. If the squad qualifies, it will compete in the Youth World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago in September 2001.
On Friday, the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion Tar Heels will be led by rising seniors Chris Leitch on defense, Michael Ueltschey in the goal and Noz Yamauchi on attack.
Former Tar Heels Michael Bucy, Stephen Cash and Carson Porter, all members of the 2000 UNC squad, will also play for the Tar Heels, who will be without injured starting defenders Danny Jackson and David Stokes this spring.
