North Carolina senior Chad Riley was named ACC Player of the Week Tuesday, the league office announced.
Riley posted a 3-0 singles record last week with wins over Duke's Yorke Allen, Georgia Tech's Sergio Aguirre and Clemson's Kevin Gottfried. Riley's 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) win over Gottfried clinched Carolina's 5-2 victory at Clemson and earned the Tar Heels the number two seed in this week's ACC Tournament.
Riley has won seven of his last nine matches and has led the Tar Heels to upsets over #34 VCU and #20 Georgia Tech during the last two weeks of the regular season. Riley is 10-4 overall and 6-2 in conference matches at the number six position in the Tar Heel line-up.
The Sugar Land, Tex., native was also recognized as ACC Player of the Week on March 12, 2001. Riley has distinguished himself in the classroom as well, earning Dean's List honors his last three semesters.
