Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team is ranked No. 7 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, released Tuesday by the IWLCA. The Tar Heels, who lost to No. 2 Duke in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament semifinals last weekend, were ranked sixth for three weeks in a row prior to this week's No. 7 ranking.
UNC was ranked No. 6 in each of the previous three weeks and had been steadily moving up in the poll since losing three of four games in early March. During a difficult stretch of five consecutive games played away from Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels defeated Johns Hopkins and Loyola but lost to No. 1 Maryland, No. 7 Boston University and No. 4 Duke.
UNC was ranked No. 5 in the preseason and climbed to No. 4 for a week in early March before falling to No. 8 for back-to-back weeks in mid-March.
Carolina returns to action on Friday when it hosts No. 6 Dartmouth at 7 p.m. at Henry Stadium in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels will then host Massachusetts at 1 p.m. Sunday on the artificial turf at Henry Stadium.
