CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina got two first-half goals and held on to shutout UNC Asheville, 3-0, on Tuesday evening at Fetzer Field. With the victory, Carolina improves to 5-2 in 2001. UNC Asheville drops to 2-4.
Marcus Storey got the Carolina scoring started at the 11:31 mark he sliced through the Bulldog defense, speeding by two defenders, and scoring from 20 yards out on the right side. Nine minutes later, David Testo scored on a penalty kick after Sean McGinty was taken down by a Bulldog defender in front of the goal. The Tar Heels took that 2-0 lead into halftime.
Matt Crawford scored in the sixth minute of the second half, taking a crossing pass from Noz Yamauchi and scoring from point-blank range.
On the night, twoCarolina shots hit the goalpost, barely missing making it a wider margin of victory for the Tar Heels. UNC limited the Bulldogs to just four shots on the night.
Michael Ueltschey played the first 77 minutes in the goal for the Tar Heels. Junior Nick Jordan played the final 13 minutes, seeing the first action of his career.
Carolina will return to action on Saturday evening with an ACC match against rival Duke at Fetzer Field at 7 p.m.
