Carolina Places Two in Singles Finals at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Kendall Cline and Leigh Bairos were the big winners at the second day of the Furman Fall Classic Saturday as both advanced to the championship round of their singles flights and played together to take home the flight three doubles championship.
airos swept Pascale Ververbeke of Iowa 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the flight four championship on Sunday. Cline also won in easy fashion, sweeping Gloris Okino of Iowa, 6-1, 6-0 to earn a place in Sunday's championship round.
Cline and Bairos played together to an 8-2 doubles championship victory over Kori Scott and Kelly Schmandt of Vanderbilt.
Kate Pinchbeck and Caroline Hill also won their second round matches as Pinchbeck defeated Alix Lacelarie of Clemson 7-6 (6), 6-3 in flight one and Hill swept Caroline Bentley of Furman, 6-4, 6-1 in flight five. Both lost their opening round mathces, though, and will not play for the championship.
Julie Rotondi, Aniela Mojzis and Kristin Koenig all lost their second round matches in singles while Rotondi and Mojzis lost in doubles.
Manon Kruse of Middle Tennessee State defeated Rotondi 7-6 (8), 6-1 in flight one, Kate Burson of Vanderbilt beat Mojzis 6-4, 6-4 in flight two and Schmandt of Vanderbilt slipped by Koenig 7-6, 7-5 in flight three.
