Carolina Waterscapes Student-Athlete Of The Week: Ashley Prange

Ashley Prange, a junior from Noblesville, Ind., won the first women's golf tournament of her collegiate career, and is the Carolina Waterscapes Student-Athlete of the Week for October 14-20.
Prange won medalist honors at the Mercedes-Benz Championship with a 2-over-par 218 total. Prange carded an even par 70 in the first round followed by a 2-under 70 in the second round and a 76 in the final round. Prange edged Purdue?s Kari Damron by one stroke.
Other Nominees:
Darian Durant completed 14 of 18 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns in Carolina?s 37-27 loss to Virginia. He had touchdown passes of 17 yards to Jawarski Pollock, 77 yards to Sam Aiken and four yards to Chesley Borders. Durant suffered a broken thumb in the third quarter and was unable to play the final quarter. He is out for the rest of the season.
Anne Morrell, a sophomore forward from Plymouth, Mich., scored two game-winning goals for the UNC women?s soccer team. Against #21 Florida State in Tallahassee Morrell scored back-to-back goals to spark a 4-0 UNC scoring run in a nine-minute span of the second half to lead the Tar Heels to an eventual 5-1 win. Against Virginia, Morrell sparked a Tar Heel rally that saw UNC score twice in the last 10 minutes for a come-from-behind 2-1 win. Morrell's game-winning goal on a 40-yard shot came in the 84th minute of play.
Shalane Flanagan won her second straight cross country race with her time of 19:57 in the women's 6K at the Asics Pre-National Mete in Terre Haute, Ind.. She finished eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and led the Heels to a Top 10 finish in the event (7th of 38 teams). She has won seven of her last eight races at Carolina, dating back to last season.
Sophomore midfielder Laura Douglas scored two goals, including the game-winner, as UNC field hockey beat Duke, 3-1, Saturday to claim 1.5 points in the Carlyle Cup race.
Matt Crawford had a goal and an assist in the men?s soccer team?s 2-1 win over NC State on Saturday. Crawford scored the game-winner with 12 seconds left in regulation.
