Tar Heels Bow Out Of All-American Championships

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. - Juniors Andy Metzler and Nicholas Monroe both saw their outstanding runs in the prequalifying tournament of the 2002 Icy Hot/Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships come to an end Sunday at the Champions Club.
oth Metzler and Monroe lost tough three set matches in the round of 32. Metzler fell to Johan Berg 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, while Monroe was eliminated from the draw by Alex Menichini by a score of 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Carolina did not fare much better in doubles Sunday either. Sophomore Jonathan Janda and freshman Brad Pomeroy fell in the round of 128 to Luis Aguerrevere and Garrot Fischer by an 8-3 count.
Three other doubles teams lost on Sunday in the round of 64. Metzler and junior Ben Aiken were beaten by James Cameron and Patrick Fillnow by an 8-2 score, senior Greg Archer and sophomore Geoff Boyd lost to Gabe Coren and Daniel Jung 8-4 and Monroe and sophomore Daniel Pinchbeck were forced to default to Jeff Kader and Zach Malmgren because of injury.
