UNC's Menaine Advances To Quarterfinals Of National Indoors

FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS - North Carolina's Trystan Meniane has advanced to the quartefinals of the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships presented by the Dallas Morning News by ending the nation's longest winning streak in Friday's second round. Meniane, a senior from Martinique, France, defeated Roger Anderson of Georgia Tech, 6-3, 6-4 to win in the round of 16.
The tournament, being hosted by Southern Methodist University, features the top 32 singles players in the nation. Meniane, who has advanced further than any Tar Heel player in the tournament since Roland Thornqvist won the championship in 1992, will face Benedikt Dorsch of Baylor in the quarterfinals Friday night at 7 p.m.
Meniane, who upset #7 seed Rameez Junaid of Auburn in the first round on Thursday, will have his hands full with Dorsch. Dorsch is the #4 seed in the tournament. He advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Alejandro Tejerina of Tulsa, 6-1, 7-5.
A win over Dorsch would propel Meniane into Saturday's semifinals. The championship match is Sunday.
