Women's Tennis Falls to Duke at Second Round of National Indoor Championships

The 16th-ranked Tar Heels lost a tough match to No. 2 Duke, 5-2, in the second round of the ITA National Indoor Championships on Friday.
Carolina's Kate Pinchbeck and Lee Bairos pulled off singles victories while Bairos paired with Kendall Cline to claim a doubles victory as the Blue Devils advanced to Saturday's semifinals. Pinchbeck defeated Julie DeRoo in flight three, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, and Bairos beat Saras Arasu 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. Cline and Bairos defeated Duke's Iona Plesu and Katie Granson 8-5 in UNC's lone doubles victory.
Carolina will face 13th-ranked Notre Dame Saturday in quarterfinal consolation play, while Duke will go on to face fourth ranked Vanderbilt. Sixteen of the nation's top teams are playing in Madison this weekend at the National Indoor Championships.
