UNC Men's Tennis Bounces Back With 4-0 Win Over Tribe

MONTGOMERY, ALA. -- The 34th-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team bounced back from a loss to Harvard Thursday by shutting out #54 William & Mary 4-0 in a consolation bracket match at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic. The victory improved North Carolina's record on the season to 8-3. UNC will play Tulsa Saturday in a consolation match after the Golden Hurricane beat Rice today.
UNC won the doubles point as Trystan Meniane and Daniel Pinchbeck provided the decisive victory at #3 by winning a 7-4 tiebreaker. The Tar Heels then went on to win three singles matches in quick order and the courts were cleared after the clinching point to put other matches in the tournament on in the stead of the Tar Heel-Tribe encounter.
Marcio Petrone, ranked #122 nationally, won in straight sets at #1 over Sean Kelleher of the Tribe and freshman Daniel Pinchbeck followed by improving his spring singles record to 10-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Joe Brooks at #4. Junior Trystan Menaine clinched the match for Carolina with a 6-2, 7-6 win at #2 singles over Geoffrey Russell. Meniane is undefeated in 11 singles matches this spring.
