CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team has moved up two spots to No. 3 in the latest IWLCA national poll, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced late Tuesday.
Carolina, which was ranked fifth last week and has been in the top five in all four polls this season, defeated No. 1 Duke, 10-4, last Saturday at Henry Stadium in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels received 182 points in the poll, just behind No. 2 Princeton's 186 and No. 1 Georgetown's 198. The Hoyas received eight of nine first-place votes.
UNC is the highest-ranked Atlantic Coast Conference team, followed by No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Virginia and No. 7 Maryland. The Tar Heels will travel to Charlottesville on Saturday to play the Cavaliers.
Should Carolina win, they will finish the 2002 ACC campaign with a perfect record of 3-0 and claim its second regular-season ACC championship in the last three years. Carolina and Virginia will face off at noon on Saturday.
The rest of the top 10 includes No. 4 Loyola, No. 8 Syracuse, No. 9 Dartmouth and No. 10 Cornell.
