The Carolina baseball team faces a big non-conference road test Wednesday night when it battles East Carolina at Harrington Field in Greenville. The Tar Heels, ranked No. 21 by Baseball America, and 20th-ranked ECU square off at 7 p.m. The game is a sellout.
Carolina is 25-13 and coming off a 12-5 win over top-ranked Clemson on Sunday. East Carolina is 26-9-1 after taking two of three games from Charlotte last weekend.
"It's a great in-state rivalry," said UNC head coach Mike Fox. "Our players may look as forward to this game as any other one on our schedule just because they know the atmosphere over there and how hostile it's going to be. They like to get in that atmosphere -- it makes them play better, harder."
Since March 10, UNC is 19-5, with four of its five losses coming to teams ranked 7th or higher. The Tar Heels are 5-4 against ranked opponents in 2002, including four wins against the No. 1 team in the country.
The Tar Heels have won eight of their last meetings with East Carolina, including a 6-3 win last year. Carolina last played in Greenville in 2000 and won 8-2 behind two home runs from Tyrell Godwin.
Carolina will start RHP Scott Manshack (4-0), while the Pirates are scheduled to throw RHP Scott Greene (1-0).
LIVE STATS will be available from Harrington Field for the game.
