Men's Soccer Drops in National Polls

CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina men's soccer team, which was ranked No. 2 in the nation last week by Soccer America and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, has dropped in both polls this week after a 1-0 home loss to Davidson last weekend.
The Tar Heels are ranked No. 8 by Soccer America and No. 13 by the NSCAA/adidas poll for the week of Sept. 9. Stanford remains the top-ranked team in both polls, followed by Clemson. The Soccer America also includes No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 St. John's and No. 5 Connecticut. The NSCAA top five is rounded out by No. 3 St. John's, No. 4 UCLA and No. 5 Notre Dame.
Carolina (3-1 this season) will return to action this weekend at the adidas/Brown Classic in Providence, R.I. The Tar Heels will face Yale at 5 p.m. on Friday and host Brown at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday (in a game that was originally scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.).
The Tar Heels' next home game will be on Sept. 21 in the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference opener against Virginia.
