Carolina vs. Davidson Game Notes

Carolina set a school record with 35 three-point field goal attempts. The previous record was 34 against Hampton (made 6) on Nov. 16, 2001.

Melvin Scott scored a season high 15 points and matched his career high with five three-point field goals. He also made five threes against Ohio on Feb. 20, 2002.

Carolina scored 79 points, its most since scoring 80 against Vermont on Dec. 19, 2002. The Tar Heels had not scored more than 69 points in its previous four games.

Davidson scored 64 points, 18.6 below the Wildcats season average. It was the sixth consecutive game in which the Tar Heels have held the opponents under 70 points. This is the first time UNC^s opponents have scored less than 70 points in six straight games since the 1998-99 season.

Freshman center Byron Sanders grabbed a season high seven rebounds for the second consecutive game.

Carolina made 13 three-point field goals. The previous high this year was 10 against Vermont. The 13 threes are the most by UNC since it hit 16 against North Carolina A&T last December .

Following a 23-turnover game against Iona in New York, the Tar Heels have committed 11, 11 and now 12 turnovers in the last three games.

Tonight^s win was the ninth of the season for the Tar Heels. Last year UNC won eight games all year. Matt Doherty's first team won its ninth game in its 11th game of the year on December 30th.

Jawad Williams went a career-best 6 for 6 from the free throw line. He is 33 for 43 from the line this year (.767). Last year, Williams was 9 for 31 from the line after his first 12 games (29.0).

Tonight's win was Carolina's 1,798th overall (1798-654) and 186th in the Smith Center (186-37).

This was the third time in 13 games this year the Tar Heels had four players in double figures. The other games were wins against Rutgers and Stanford.

Rashad McCants made 4 of 8 from three-point range. This was the fifth game this year in which McCants scored at least three three-point field goals in a game. He also had four threes against Iona. McCants has made at least one three in every game this year and multiple threes in seven of the 13 games.

McCants has scored in double figures in all 13 games. This was his first game coming off the bench.
