Boyd Excels In Flight A At USC Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Junior Geoff Boyd (Atlanta, Ga.) won the consolation championship of flight A singles at this past weekend's South Carolina Invitational, highlighting the play of seven UNC players who competed in the tournament.
"We've really shown quite a bit of improvement this fall. This team has gotten a lot better just the past few weeks. Coach Don Johnson is doing a great job with the team as our full-time assistant," says UNC head coach Sam Paul. "Geoff Boyd's play this past weekend was especially outstanding and I am looking forward to seeing us this weekend as we host the indoor regional championships in Chapel Hill." After losing in the first round of flight A singles to sixth-seeded D.J. Spice of Wake Forest, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, Boyd came back to win four straight matches and claim the consolation title. Boyd's wins were over Amine Elouzzani of Hampton 4-6, 6-1, 7-6, Toby Rawlings of Newberry 6-1, 6-1, Timo Kienle of Webber International 6-3, 7-6 and Ben Atkinson of South Carolina 6-4, 6-4.
