Raleigh, N.C. - Camilla Ihenetu had her best performance of the season and in turn led North Carolina to a 3-0 sweep of N.C. State. Ihenetu had 17 kills, eight digs and two blocks to spark the Tar Heels to the win. UNC won 31-29, 30-21, 30-22.
Ihenetu, a sophomore outside hitter, had struggled earlier in the season, but has come on strong as of late. Her 17 kills was a career high.
"Sometimes when things aren't going well, it is hard to keep your confidence up, but I got kept my focus and got my confidence up for this game," said Ihenetu.
"It took us awhile to get in our rhythm," said head coach Joe Sagula. "Camilla started and we stayed with her and she came out and had a career night in kills, which was great. I'm really glad that i wasn't too quick to make judgement tonight, because it worked out in her favor and its really good for her confidence."
Junior outside hitter Molly Pyles had her fifth double-double of the season. Pyles had 11 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Other key contributors were junior setter Norma Cortez and freshman outside hitter Meg Eckert. Cortez had a career high 47 assists and Eckert had 13 kills and nine digs.
"We knew that we might be a little off because we changed some things on offense," said Sagula. "I thought it might take enough time that we could lose a game, but i think we would be better for it. I'm just so proud that we came back from a 26-29 deficit in the first game."
The Tar Heels next travel to Charlottesville, Va. on Oct. 7 to take on the Virginia Cavaliers.
