Chapel Hill, N.C. - It was an easy day for the No. 12 North Carolina women's tennis team, as the Tar Heels cruised past Boston University, 7-0, at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center today.
In the three doubles matches, UNC (7-3) lost a combined three games, and every singles match was a straight-set victory. Kate Pinchbeck and Aniela Mojzis continued their strong play with 6-0, 6-0, victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots respectively. Marlene Mejia also won convincingly, giving up only one game in each of her sets at No. 2 singles.
Despite the lopsided score, Coach Jen Callen said her team still benefits greatly from the experience.
"I think it's always good to have a match like this," Callen said. "It builds confidence in the players.
"We have a tough schedule, and this prepares them for the next match."
The Tar Heels had played seven straight matches against teams in the top 25, and went 4-3 during that stretch. The last of those matches was a 4-3 loss to #25 Kentucky on Feb. 21, so today's match against the unranked Terriers (5-3) was something of a respite for the squad.
"We don't take any matches for granted," said Lee Bairos. "Everybody's good, but this was a nice way to work up to bigger matches like Duke."
UNC will host Harvard tomorrow in Chapel Hill at 1 p.m.
