WASHINGTON, D.C. - The North Carolina women's rowing team competed Saturday morning on the Potomac River, taking second in the novice eight race and third in the varsity eight. The two boats were the only ones to compete for the Tar Heels.
In windy conditions, the novices came away with the day's best result, second to Virginia with a time of 6:17.3. "There were together, felt strong and long and powerful, and were able to maintain that for the full 2,000 meters," novice coach Laura Fogt said. "They came away from it feeling good about what they did."
The varsity boat finished third in a field of three, but also came away with positives. "We could have had a better start and better finish, but we can build on that," varsity assistant coach Laura Baylor said. "Overall it was a good racing experience for the girls. They fought hard and were happy with their performance."
Next up for the Tar Heels is the Knecht Cup, April 12-13 in Cherry Hill, N.J.
