
No. 10 Tar Heels Drop 10-4 Decision at No. 4 Loyola

BALTIMORE - Suzanne Eyler gave Loyola four goals in a 10-4 win over the University of Carolina on Friday afternoon at Curley Field. The Greyhounds improve to 2-0 with the win while the Tar Heels fall to 1-2.
Stephanie Walker started the scoring early with her goal less than a minute into play. Melissa McCarthy answered back at 4:03 when she got a free-position shot past Loyola goalie, Kim Lawton. Talia Shacklock beat her defender at 7:55 to tally an unassisted goal and pull the Greyhounds up by one. Eyler would score her first goal of the game unassisted at 19:27 to put Loyola up, 3-1. Rachel Shuck added yet another unassisted goal for the 'Hounds for a 4-1 halftime score.
Loyola tallied two quick goals to start the second half. Shuck made her second tally with a goal at 33:28 from Kristi Korrow which was followed less than a minute later with another unassisted score from Eyler for the 6-1 score. UNC would get on the board at 36:18 with an unassisted goal by Lynne Quattrone but Loyola's defense would hold them the Tar Heels virtually scoreless until the last two minutes of play.
Shuck started another Loyola run at 38:10 and then assisted on an Eyler goal at 41:22. Eyler would add her fourth goal of the day at 45:21. Susan Tyrrell got the final point for the Greyhounds with her goal ay 53:55.
The Tar Heels would add two more goal in the final minutes of play but it would not be enough to overcome their near-20 minute scoring drought.
Shuck finished with three goals and an assist to follow Eyler's four.
Loyola's goalies Lawton and Cindy Nicolaus split time in goal with Lawton earning her second start. Lawton made two saves in the first half while Nicolaus stopped seven shots in the second. UNC's Marget Garofalo made nine saves.
The Tar Heels will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Boston University at 1 p.m. at Henry Stadium in Chapel Hill.
