Meniane, Monroe Cop Bids To NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The North Carolina men's tennis team will send two individuals to the 2003 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships at the University of Georgia beginning May 21. Senior Trystan Meniane has been chosen for singles play and Meniane and Monroe will combine to play in the doubles championship.
The brackets consist of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams. Menaine, ranked 32nd nationally, earned a singles bid from the Mideast Region. Monroe, ranked 58th nationally, is the third alternate for the singles championship.
Meniane and Monroe will combine in doubles where they are currently ranked No. 17 in the nation.
This will be the 12th time in the last 14 years the Tar Heels have sent at least one player to the singles championship. UNC has had at least one entry in ever year from 1990-2003 except 1999 and 2001. The total number of bids now stands at 14. Meniane is 23-11 in singles this season and 90-45 in his career at UNC. Monroe is the third alternate. He is 23-9 in singles this season and 64-33 overall.
Meniane and Monroe are the first Tar Heels invited to the NCAA Championships in doubles since 1996 when David Caldwell and Brint Morrow made their last of three straight appearances in the championships. The 17th-ranked duo is 12-4 in doubles this season. In their careers, Meniane is 67-31 in doubles and Monroe is 50-43.
