CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina softball team will host a series of exhibition games Saturday at the UNC Softball Complex. In addition to UNC, East Carolina and UNC Wilmington will participate in the Carolina Softball Fall Classic.
Action begins at 1 p.m. when ECU faces UNC Wilmington. The Tar Heels will play UNC Wilmington at 3 p.m. and East Carolina at 5. There is no charge for admission.
"These games will be a good gauge to let us see where we are," UNC coach Donna J. Papa said. "This is our first week of team practices so certainly it's early for us to make a lot of judgements, but hopefully we'll execute well on some of the things we've worked on. We look forward to playing some outside competition and seeing how people react in game situations. We've had a lot of enthusiasm and good focus in practice so far and we're excited to play on Saturday."
Carolina finished 40-22-1 in 2003 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last three years. The Tar Heels return 14 letterwinners from that squad, including pitcher Crystal Cox, the 2003 ACC Rookie of the Year, and first baseman Jaclyn Holden, who earned third-team All-America honors last season as a freshman.
