BAHAMA, N.C. - The North Carolina rowing team opened fall competition on Saturday with a race hosted by Duke on Lake Michie. Duke took the top spots in the varsity eight and varsity four races, the only ones in which UNC competed. Carolina's varsity eight finished third and Tar Heel varsity fours took fourth, fifth and seventh.
"It wasn't a magnificent race for us, but it wasn't a bad race," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "Technically it was fine. What we need to work on is not being out-pulled on the water. We need to develop a little more strength per stroke. It's good to learn that this early in the season."
Next up for UNC is the team's Blue-White Scrimmage, scheduled for Saturday on the Tar Heels' home water, University Lake.
