Tar Heels Ranked No. 15 In Baseball America Preseason Poll

DURHAM, N.C. - Following the NCAA Starkville Regional title and a 42-23 record a year ago, the University of North Carolina baseball team earned the No. 15 spot in the 2004 Baseball America Preseason College Top 25. Defending national champion Rice, who the Tar Heels will face Feb. 27 in Houston, Texas, is ranked No. 1.
Carolina stands third among five Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the poll. Georgia Tech is rated No. 5, followed by No. 11 Clemson and the Tar Heels in the 15th position. Florida State is rated No. 22, and NC State checks in at No. 25. UNC is slated to play eight teams in the Baseball America poll, including four of the nation's top seven squads (Rice, Miami, Georgia Tech, South Carolina).
The Tar Heels, who open the season in Chapel Hill against Seton Hall on Feb. 20, were ranked No. 19 by Baseball America in last season's final poll. UNC was ranked 21st in Collegiate Baseball's 2004 preseason rankings, which were released Dec. 19.
