Tar Heels Travel to Elon Wednesday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina men's soccer team steps out of Atlantic Coast Conference play Wednesday to travel to Elon for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Phoenix at Rhodes Stadium. A silent auction will be held before the match with proceeds benefiting The V Foundation.
The Tar Heels enter the match with a 3-6-2 record and are fresh off a 1-0 defeat at No. 24 Maryland last Sunday. The Phoenix are 4-5-3 on the season are coming off a 3-0 win over Wofford last time out.
Carolina is led by senior forward Marcus Storey, who has a team-best 12 points (three goals, six assists) on the year. He is eighth in the ACC in scoring with 1.20 points per match and ranks 17th nationally with 0.50 assists per game. Sophomore Corey Ashe tops the squad with four goals and ranks second with eight points. Senior defender Tim Merritt, who has scored in two of the last three games, is third on the team with seven points.
Freshman forward Douglas Boateng leads Elon with six goals on the season, while Brett Paschall has four goals and two assists. Taylor Saxe has played every minute in goal for the Phoenix this season and owns a 1.34 goals against average.
Carolina is 7-0-0 all-time against Elon and won the last meeting, 4-0, in 2002. The Tar Heels have not played at Elon since 1982, a 2-0 Carolina win.
