
Tar Heels Shut Out Host James Madison, 2-0

The North Carolina field hockey team registered its 10th shutout of the season Saturday with a 2-0 victory at James Madison. The second-ranked Tar Heels improved to 15-1 with the win, while the Dukes fell to 4-12.
Seniors Kelsey Keeran and Kerry Falgowski scored the UNC goals. Keeran's came on a penalty corner with 12:55 to play in the first half. Her initial shot was saved by JMU goalkeeper Lori Amico, but she gathered the rebound and scored to put Carolina up 1-0 at halftime.
Falgowski's score also was on a penalty corner. She tipped in a shot by senior Carey Fetting-Smith with 27:55 to play in the game.
The Tar Heels continue their weekend road trip with a game against No. 16 Virginia (10-6) in Charlottesville, Va., on Sunday. The 1 p.m. matchup will not count toward the league standings, in which UNC is 3-0 and Virginia is 0-2.
