Tar Heels Open Season with Blue-White Match

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Highlighted by pins by sophomores Nick Buckman and Ben Connell and freshman Daniel Llamas, the North Carolina wrestling team kicked off the 2004-05 season with its annual Blue-White Match Sunday at Carmichael Auditorium.
Buckman, a transfer from Penn State, downed fellow transfer Kyle Shelton from Oklahoma State at 157 pounds, while Connell pinned Spencer Nadolsky in the heavyweight match-up. Llamas, a rookie from Durham, N.C., downed sophomore Tim Barbis at 174.
Llamas' prep teammate Vincent Ramirez recorded the other big win of the day, a 19-2 technical fall win over Rick Seibold, at 141 pounds. All-America Evan Sola was victorious at 133 pounds, with a 4-0 win over freshman Jared Royer.
Other winners on day included Drew Forshey (125), Garrett Atkinson (165), Justin Dobies (184) and David Dashiell (197). Brian Baglio picked up a medical forfeit win at 141 pounds.
Carolina opens its regular season on November 21 at the Missouri Open.
