CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina women's golf coach Sally Austin announces the signing of two players who will join the Tar Heel team in the fall of 2005, Lauren Hunt from Little River, S.C., and Sydney Crane from Jamestown, N.C.
"We are excited about Sydney and Lauren joining our team next fall," says Austin. "Both had outstanding junior careers and both girls excel in the classroom. We feel they will be a great addition to our team and fit in well as Carolina student-athletes."
Hunt, a letterwinner from North Myrtle Beach High School, is the current S.C. Women's Junior Girls Champion. She is a two-time winner of the Junior Azalea Championship and two-time winner of the Anderson Sunshine House Junior. She also captured the 2002 S.C. Junior Golf Association Players Championship and the International Junior Golf Tour Championship at Sea Trail Resort. Hunt was the 2002 S.C. High School 3A Girls State Champion, two-time S.C. High School 3A Player of the Year and three-time S.C. High School 3A Region VII Champion. Hunt is a two-time member of the Carolinas Girls Team Matches.
Crane, a letterwinner from Ragsdale High School, has posted several top finishes in tournaments throughout the state. She captured the championship at the 2003 Tar Heel Youth Golf Association Tournament at Oakwood and was runner-up at the 2004 Carolina's Golf Association Championship and the 2004 Old North State Tournament. Crane carded a fifth-place finish at the Twin State Junior Girls Championship and tied for 15th at the 2004 North and South Junior at Pinehurst. Crane comes from a family of Tar Heel golfers as her mother, Sheree Marsh Crane, played on the 1976-78 Carolina golf team and two of her aunts played for the Tar Heels, Page Marsh, 1982-85, and Amber Marsh Elliott, 1988-92.
