Carolina Wrestling Beats Appalachian State 36-6

CHAPEL HILL, NC - The University of North Carolina wrestling team won their last match of the regular season against Appalachian State University with a decisive score of 36-6. Before the match the team honored seniors Ryan Adams, Mark Canty, Venroy July, Josh Lee, Andrew Slack, and Tommy Thekkekandam in the last home match of their collegiate wrestling careers.
Seniors Mark Canty, Ryan Adams, and Venroy July came out victorious on Senior Day at Carmichael. Canty defeated Appalachian State's Chris Tukanen with a score of 6-2 in the 184 pound weight class. July won with a score of 8-5 in a hard fought match against Aaron Barnett at 197 pounds to increase to Tar Heels lead to 30-6 with one match left. Team Captain Ryan Adams had the only fall of the afternoon to finish out the Tar Heel victory. Adams pinned Appalachian State's David Hazell 3:47 into the match. Also victorious for the Tar Heels were redshirt freshman Bobby Shaw, junior Mike Booth, sophomore Ashton Buswell, and sophomore Garrett Atkinson,
The Tar Heels return to action on March 6 when they travel to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the ACC Tournament.
