Tar Heel Men's Tennis Team Gets Back Into Win Column With Victory Over Hoyas

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 38th-ranked University of North Carolina men's tennis team ended its brief one-match losing streak as the Tar Heels defeated Georgetown 6-1 Sunday afternoon in the first match of an outdoor-indoor doubleheader at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. UNC was scheduled to play North Carolina A&T at 7 p.m. in and indoor match.
Tar Heel coach Sam Paul changed up his lineup for the match inserting Jonathan Janda and Ben Aiken into the singles lineup. UNC won the doubles point with three decisive wins and Carolina went on to win five of six singles in straight sets, led by 36th-ranked Nick Monroe at No. 1. Monroe defeated the Hoyas' Dennis Cravedi 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while senior Andy Metzler won his 12th singles match in the last 13 contests as he whipped Scott Faust 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Other wins for UNC came from Brad Pomeroy at No. 3, Geoff Boyd at No. 4 and Jonathan Janda at No. 5.
UNC improved to 8-1 in dual matches with the win while Georgetown saw its record evened at 8-8 on the campaign. Carolina's only dual match loss has come at the hands of No. 12 Virginia Commonwealth in a close 5-2 decision.
