Carolina Men's Tennis Wins Second Match Of Day

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Led by several players who rarely get the chance to play in the singles lineup, North Carolina's No. 38-ranked men's tennis team completed a day-night indoor-outdoor doubleheader sweep with a 7-0 victory over North Carolina A&T Sunday night at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Junior Jonathan Janda, senior Ben Aiken and senior Jeremey Ledford all got a chance to play in the singles lineup for Coach Sam Paul's team as the Tar Heels improved to 9-1 on the 2004 campaign. The Aggies fell to 4-4 with the loss.
After Carolina clinched the doubles point with a pair of 8-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 2, the Tar Heels went on to win at No. 1-5 singles in straight sets. Aiken claimed his first dual match win of the season as he defeated Marcus Williams 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Janda claimed his second singles win of the day as he blanked Elderick Stephens at No. 4 singles by a 6-0, 6-0 score. Ledford won his first dual match of the season as he won at No. 6 by walkover.
The Tar Heels will hit the road next to play the No. 22 South Carolina Gamecocks Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.
