CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 14 North Carolina men's tennis team will try to remain undefeated in the Atlantic Coast Conference Wednesday when it travels to Durham, N.C. to meet fifth-ranked Duke at 2 p.m. at the Ambler Tennis Stadium. Match time is 2 p.m.
Carolina will be seeking its first win over the Blue Devils since April 11, 1996 when the Tar Heels sprang a 4-3 upset in Durham. Duke has won nine straight over Carolina since then, seven in regular season matches and twice in ACC Tournament play. In the all-time series the Tar Heels hold the edge 83-26.
UNC is 20-2 overall this year and 6-0 in the ACC with matches remaining against Duke and No. 33 Florida State. Duke is 16-5 overall and 4-1 in the ACC with matches remaining against Carolina, Maryland and No. 15 Virginia.
UNC is coming off a 5-2 upset win at Virginia last Saturday when the Cavaliers were ranked No. 12 in the nation. That was only Virginia's second loss of the season.
The last two UNC-Duke matches have been 4-3 decisions with Duke winning last year in Chapel Hill and in Durham in 2002.
The match will be worth one point in the 2003-04 Carlyle Cup standings. Duke currently leads 11-8.
