Monroe Advances To NCAA Singles Quarterfinals

TULSA, OKLA. - North Carolina's Nick Monroe won the 100th singles match of his Tar Heel career Friday and it came at an opportune time as it proplled him into the NCAA Division I Championships quarterfinals where he will play 33rd-ranked Franticek Babej of the University of South Alabama Saturday.
The match between Monroe and Babej will begin at 3:30 p.m. EDT Saturday at the University of Tulsa, host of the 2004 Championships.
Monroe, a senior from Olathe, Kan., won his NCAA Tournament third round match Friday over 65th-ranked K.C. Corkery of Stanford University 6-4, 6-3. In the process, Monroe, ranked 29th nationally, won the 100th singles match of his UNC career, second only to David Caldwell's (1993-96) 116 career wins.
Monroe became the first Tar Heel player to advance to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in singles since Tripp Phillips did so during the 2000 season.
