Bard Named to USA National Team

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina right-hander Daniel Bard was named to the 22-man roster that will make up the 2004 USA Baseball National Team Sunday. The squad will compete in the Japan vs. USA Collegiate All-Star Series and the FISU II World University Games in Tainan, Taiwan. The original 36-man USA Baseball National Team Trials Roster down to 22 players after a four-game series against Canada at Durham Bulls Athletic Park last week.
ard made one appearance during the trial series, working two hitless innings against Canada last Friday. During the collegiate season, he was named Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year after posting an 8-4 record and a 3.88 earned run average. He is the first Tar Heel to make Team USA since Tyrell Godwin in 1999.
Team USA won all four games against Canada during the trials stage and will finish the six-game series against the Canadians Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at Coastal Federal Field. The All-Star Series in Japan is set for July 2-8. The team will take on Chinese Taipei at the DBAP July 15-18 before heading to Taiwan for the World University Games, July 25 through August 1.
