CONWAY, S.C. - Senior preseason All-America Marcus Storey scored the lone goal of the night, and junior goalkeeper Ford Williams tallied 11 saves to lead the No. 8 North Carolina men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over No. 23 Coastal Carolina in an exhibition match Saturday at CCU Soccer Field.
Despite being outshot 9-4 in the first half, the Tar Heels took a 1-0 lead into intermission thanks to Storey, who scored at the 28:51 mark of the match. Sophomore Corey Ashe assisted on the goal, which was all the scoring the Tar Heel defense would need. The Chanticleers outshot the Tar Heels for the match, 22-6.
Williams went the distance in goal and picked up the shutout for the Tar Heels.
The game was a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament Second Round match, which was a 3-0 win for the Chanticleers in Chapel Hill.
Carolina opens the 2004 regular season at next weekend's Ohio State Classic. The Tar Heels face Penn State Friday, September 3 and then take on the host Buckeyes Sunday, September 5.
